Do you ever find yourself on a totally different path to what you intended? Are you bogged down with the day to day activities of your business instead of spending time on the bigger picture? Are you stuck IN the business instead of ON the business? Staying connected to WHY, your PURPOSE, is the answer.
Most of us have been there, we get up one day and realise that this is not where we wanted to be or we wanted to be much further along. Somewhere down the line we lost sight of the bigger picture and just kept pushing on. When things don't go to plan it's usually because we simply drifted off track. Staying connected to your big purpose not only keeps you on track but it gives you the juice and motivation you need when things get challenging. It also becomes a key decision making asset.
So the first question to ask yourself is, why did I or why do I want to start my own business? Why are you in it now? What will it ultimately give you really? The answer to this question will bring you back to your BIG WHY. Then ask yourself, if I achieved that, how would I feel? You want to get to the actual desired feeling that all this is about. It's not the thriving successful business that gives you ultimate achievement and satisfaction but rather what that achievement gives you. Is it the feeling of security, accomplishment, fulfillment, financial freedom to spend unwatched time, to be with your family, watch your children grow up? Know what this is really about. The challenge is that most people get caught up in the vehicle instead of the outcome.
Once you know what is your ultimate outcome and I say ultimate because that comes down to the desired feeling, ask yourself, what else in life gives me that feeling? And then focus. There is incredible power in focus and mindfulness. You will find that you can identify many things in life that can give you the same outcome. What would happen if you bought more of your desired feeling into your life and business? How would your business change? How would it impact your employees? Let me tell you, you would create massive positive momentum and create far greater results simply because you succeeded everyday. This way you don't have to wait until your business has 'made it' to feel that same sense of achievement, you get to feel it in doing all the other things too.
What makes a business work is the WHY - it gives you the perseverance through all the ups and downs you will inevitably experience over the years. Running a business certainly takes a lot of energy. That energy can soon get worn out. You need to have a reason and a vision of something you're truly passionate about, where you are even serving more than yourself. This will give you the energy that even when your body's gone and you're emotionally gone, you will keep going.
Stay connected to your BIG WHY!
